Over 100 artists and makers invite you to see behind the scenes when they open up their studios this April.

Explore the creative spaces of furniture makers, painters, potters, sculptors, jewellers and lots more makers in and around York, North Yorkshire at this popular free event.

See art in the place where it’s made and discover spaces rarely open to the public, from town houses and cottage workshops to rustic garden sheds. In all of them you will find the makers themselves ready to show you their work in person.

New artists include Iain Will, whose paintings have been exhibited at York Art Gallery; also new to the event is printmaker Michelle Hughes whose linocut prints are inspired by nature and the great British countryside. Other printmakers include Dan Howden, recipient of the Anthony Dawson Young Printmaker of the year award and Gerard Hobson with his beautifully designed images of nature and wild animals.

See Lauren Terry’s paintings of colourful, characterful cows at Bar Lane Studios where Charis Raine is also exhibiting. Visit PICA studios to see a group of artists who include illustrators, printmakers, potters all under one roof.

Find unique jewellery and perhaps commission a piece; take a closer look at the work of ceramicist Ruth King whose pots are the result of a lifetime of skill; discover the beauty of wood with a visit to Marcus Jacka’s studio and see his handcrafted furniture.

Chair, Beccy Ridsdel comments: ‘We’re very lucky to live in such a vibrant, creative city with so many wonderful artists and craftspeople. We’re really excited, pleased and proud to have over 100 of them exhibiting in this year’s York Open Studios.’
